The Clubhouse elevation from the west has not changed since 1882 as can be seen from the two adjacent images. A major refurbishment and an extension to the Clubhouse was completed in 2001 prior to the Club’s Sesquicentennial celebrations. This refurbishment concentrated on the Club’s visitor facilities bring them up the standards expected by the discerning golfer.
The Clubhouse is delightfully traditional and full of character. All public rooms have an interesting selection of pictures, and memorabilia of interest, displayed throughout the Clubhouse. For the golfer who is keen on the history of golf a visit is essential. Time should be allowed to study the early days of the Open Championship which Prestwick started in 1860.
There are two dining rooms and two bars. The Members Bar and Dining Room are formal where the dress code requires jacket collar and tie. The Cardinal Lounge and Dining Room are however casual and the dress code is smart casual. The food at Prestwick is excellent and if the opportunity arises to have a meal when playing, it should not be missed. |
